In a bid to make the cloud a more productive destination for professionals, Amazon Web Services has acquired Thinkbox Software. Thinkbox will now form a part of AWS's cloud based suite of tools and will attempt to augment their usefulness for customers.
In case you are unaware of it, Thinkbox Software creates solutions aimed towards folks belonging to the visual media industries. Quite a lot of the company's solutions have to do with media design and content creation and some examples include Deadline — systems for render management, XMesh — geometry caching and particle meshing system — Frost.
One of the most interesting things about the tools developed by Thinkbox is the fact that they can work on-premise as well as from the clouds. And it is the latter part that got AWS interested — mostly at least. I am sure it will find itself able to market the company's on-premise solutions as well.
Speaking on the topic, Thinksoft founder and CEO Christ opher Bond said:
We're excited to announce that we've been acquired by Amazon!
We'll be joining the Amazon Web Services family, and we're looking forward to working together to deliver exciting customer offerings.
At this point, it's still business as usual for us. We'll continue to provide you, our customers, with remarkable support whether you work on-prem, in the cloud or both.

Meanwhile, this is not the first acquisition made by Amazon. Amazon has previously picked up companies like Harvest.ai and Biba to add more layers and more complexity to its cloud based services. While Harvest's offering were security based, Biba had something to do with video conferencing.
Meanwhile, taking up Thinkbox will allow Amazon to get software custom designed according to their customer's needs. Not only will this make the AWS a more tempting cloud destination, it will also create huge revenue opportunities. And wi th clients like Netflix, AWS will probably keep Thinkbox busy.
